Why should I host in Australia when I can get more for my money overseas?

There are two main things that you gain when hosting in Australia:

  • 1/ The first is speed due to the network latency and bandwidth restrictions when accessing sites hosted overseas. Your page load times from our servers will be significantly faster than from an overseas host, which will ultimately mean your Australian viewers enjoy using your site more.
  • 2/ The second is support and maintenance. Our support staff work the same hours as you and are therefore available when you need them. Additionally, server maintenance is always carried out in what is considered to be an off-peak period, however most overseas off-peak periods are in fact peak periods in Australia. This means you can often notice the affects of server maintenance being carried out.
  • So pretty much, the rule of thumb is, if your target viewer market is Australia, you will always be better off hosting your site with an Australia host that uses servers located in Australia.

    Can you help me move my website and emails?

    Yes, if your website is currently hosted on a server that uses cPanel we can help you move your site for free. If your website is a PHP based web application, you will also need to make sure that it is compatible with MySQL 5 and PHP 5.2. RokitWeb does not take responsibility for applications that break during migration due to server incompatibility, so if your site has specific requirements, please enquire with us first to ensure your site will work in our hosting environment.

    Do your web hosting packages include a domain name?

    Generally no. Web hosting and domain registrations are different products and domain names need to be purchased either at the time you order your hosting, or separately post/prior to ordering your hosting. However, from time to time we may offer specials that include a domain name with a hosting package.

    Unlimited emails, subdomains, databases, etc...how can that be?

    We believe that putting arbitrary limitations on these kinds of account attributes is pointless and does nothing more than to limit the general functionality of what you are paying for and make the choosing of your plan more difficult. Hence we follow a more realistic approach and simply monitor the amount of overall server disk space being used and the level of server resources(CPU, RAM, etc) that your account uses.

    Why don't you offer unlimited disk space or bandwidth options?

    There are a few reasons for this, including the fact that wholesale bandwidth prices in Australia are considerably more expensive than overseas. However, our primary reason is that for the vast majority of customers, it is simply not needed and in many cases is a misleading promise. Our standard plan resource allocations meet the requirements of almost all of our customers as they are. And for customers requiring a little extra space or monthly traffic quota, our addon resource options are very competitively priced and can be added at any stage.

    Do you offer a free trial period?

    Can I sign up on a monthly plan and upgrade to a longer billing period further down the track?

    Absolutely. You are free to upgrade your plan and take advantage of our longer term discounts at any stage.

    What does your support cover?

    Our support staff are here to ensure our servers are functioning correctly and that the services required to deliver your website and emails to the web are operating as normal. We are also here to assist you with understanding how our hosting tools work, and we will always endeavour to answer your questions directly or point you in the right direction to find the appropriate information. If your website is not functioning due to scripting and development issues, unfortunately due to the complex nature of website coding, it is impossible for us to cover this under our standard free support. However, we will always endeavour to point you in the right direction to get the assistance or information you require.

Why do I need a website?

In today's online world where more and more people are using the web to both research and shop for products, a professional website allows you to to present your business to a massive range of potential customers well beyond the likes of print media. Just like a shop putting together an enticing window display to try and woo your business, a professional website gives your business the ability to say "we mean business so why not give us a call?"

Do I need to host my website with you?

Absolutely not! Our web design services are a completely separate product to our web hosting and we do not put any kind of restriction on where you can use your website.

How long does it take to build my site?

Once we have received all the required content(logo, text, etc) it generally takes about 4-6 weeks for a basic site, 6-8 weeks for custom websites, and 8-12 weeks for content management and ecommerce websites.

Will you setup all my products for me as part of your eCommerce packages?

Each of our packages include a limited number of products that we will set up for you. Beyond that, the setup and ongoing maintenance of your products is your responsibility.

Once my site is built, will you update it for me?

All of our packages include a limited post development period where will we apply any security updates that are required. However, after that period has expired, it becomes your responsibility to maintain your website. RokitWeb can install updates beyond this period for a fee and this would simply require you to provide us with a breif on what you want done so we can give you a quote for the job.

Will you help me organise a payment gateway?

Our Shoppping Cart application offers a range of payment gateway options and we will install the payment gateway module of your choice. However, it is your responsibility to set up your merchant account with the necessary parties so your chosen gateway will function.

Do your packages include hosting?

Generally no, hosting is a separate product and needs to be purchased via our website if you would like to host your site with us. However, from time to time we may offer deals or bundles that do include hosting and/or domain name registration.
